The Scholarships Team

David Schug, co-director of the National and International Scholarships Program, has been working with top-notch Illinois students and alumni in preparing and applying for nationally competitive awards since 2002. He greatly enjoys meeting students from all backgrounds and disciplines and encouraging them to reach for their academic and personal goals. David was elected as a Board Member of the National Association of Fellowships Advisors for a four-year term beginning July 2009. In the mornings, you may find him traversing area trails in marathon training, and in the evenings, he is likely attending a church event, playing double bass with a community orchestra, gardening, or volunteering with the local Extension Office.

Laura Hastings, co-director of the National and International Scholarships Program, has a PhD in Political Science. She is also coordinator of the forthcoming master’s degree in European Union Studies and is an adjunct faculty member in the department of political science, teaching courses in international relations and international political economy. She loves yoga, dance, and opera, and is currently busier shuttling her kids around than she wishes.
